Tamil Nadu records 94.4% pass in SSLC exams

The Directorate of School Education in Tamil Nadu on Friday declared the results of Class 10 Secondary School Leave Certificate (SSLC) examinations and, like every year, girls outnumbered boys.

The overall pass percentage stood at  94.4%, which is 0.8% higher than the previous year. This is the highest pass percentage recorded in the last five years.

Nearly 9.82 lakh students appeared for the examinations. Of this, 4.91 lakh were girls and 4.9 lakh boys. Many appeared as private candidates too.

The government has done away with declaring State ranks from this year. However, it announced the number of students who scored centum in each subject.

Drop in centum

Social Sciences saw a record 61,115 centums. But the number dropped from previous years in other subjects. As many as 13,759 students achieved full marks in mathematics, 4995 lesser than last year. The number of those who scored centum in Science was 17,481.

While there were no centum scorers in English, 69 students managed to get 100 marks in Tamil. 

The pass percentage in Puducherry was 93.67%, which is 1.25% more than last year.
