Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Wednesday arrested two persons, including a tahsildar, on graft charges.

DVAC sources said Vadivelu, a farmer of Pulipattu, had approached Gingee tahsildar Adhi Bhagavan demanding permission to lift sand from a tank maintained by the Public Works Department in the neighbouring Semmedu village.

But the tahsildar reportedly demanded ₹8,000 to grant permission and asked him to hand over money to his driver Kandasamy.

Mr. Vadivelu lodged a complaint with the DVAC police who laid a trap and asked the complainant to hand over chemical coated currency notes.

The police arrested Adhi Bhagavan and Kandasamy while receiving the money. Further investigations are on.
