Swamy thanks Modi, Rajapaksa

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday said the ‘joint efforts’ of heads of States of both India and Sri Lanka had helped resolve the issue of five fishermen from Tamil Nadu convicted and sentenced to death by a Colombo court recently.

“The nation is grateful to the joint efforts of the President of Sri Lanka Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for finding a solution to the emotionally surcharged Tamil fishermen convict issue,” Dr. Swamy said in a statement released here.

“I am happy I was able to bring to the notice of both that a Treaty of 2010 could facilitate the transfer to India of these fishermen. In future our Prime Minister should disregard the babel from Tamil Nadu’s sold-out politicians and repair Indo-Sri Lanka ruptured relations on the basis of mutual respect and dialogue,” Dr. Swamy said.
