The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has sought the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for their alleged roles in facilitating former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi’s immigration application.
Addressing the media at Kovilpatti near here on Monday, CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said Mr. Modi was facing an Enforcement Directorate probe into alleged money laundering. He was indicted by the BCCI and after enquiries, 16 cases were filed against him in court, but he had not submitted himself for investigation.
“But, the Centre is protecting him and not demanding his extradition. Ms. Swaraj and Ms. Raje have committed gross impropriety by violating existing laws and norms of governance to support Lalit Modi, who is wanted by Indian law,” Ms. Karat said.
She was in Kovilpatti to support the struggle of the disabled and disadvantaged people at a State-level conference.
The CPI (M) would intensify its struggle from August 1 to 14 demanding concrete measures to address the rural and agrarian crisis, she said.
