Students, chart your course here

May 02, 2011 12:50 am | Updated 12:50 am IST - MADURAI:

Students of Tirunelveli and surrounding areas are going to get a golden opportunity to know about various courses, colleges and careers all under one roof.

Particularly for those students who have just completed their Plus Two and are waiting to join engineering, medicine and other courses, this opportunity is knocking at their door on May 19 in Tirunelveli.

For the first time, “The Hindu Education Plus Career Fair” is being organised in Tirunelveli, at PMS Centenary Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., keeping in view the interest of students in that region.

There will be a set of education experts to guide the students in choosing a right course or college during this admission season. With the Plus Two examination results coming in a few days, the career fair will help the students in making a right choice based on marks scored by them.

Jayaprakash A. Gandhi, popular career consultant and education analyst in the State, will provide an overview on what would be the possible trend in engineering admissions during the Anna University counselling this year.

Based on the possible cut-off marks for admission counselling, he will analyse the chances of students making it to a particular engineering or medical college by taking into account the Plus Two results State-wide and the students' marks.

Mr. Gandhi will answer queries from students and their parents on admission to arts and science colleges too.

There will be an exclusive session by S. Selvam, placement wing Director of Anna University-Chennai, who would present a comprehensive picture on latest trends in campus placement/off-campus recruitment drives being organised by the university for various companies.

As the Director of Centre for University-Industry Collaboration at the university, Dr. Selvam will speak on how students of each engineering branch such as mechanical, civil, IT, electrical and electronics, computer science and instrumentation had demand from companies and the prospects for each branch.

Students will have the opportunity to listen to an eminent motivational speaker and senior IAS officer R. Balakrishnan who will motivate the students towards success in life.

By attending the fair, school and college students can gather information and take a decision that could shape their career and life.

The title sponsor for the event is VIT, Vellore, and the associate sponsor is PSN-Tirunelveli. Co-sponsors are NI University, Reach Academy, Einstein Engineering College, Pandian Saraswathi College of Engineering, Vickram College of Engineering, TIME Education (Madurai), and S.N.M.V. Group of Institutions, Coimbatore.
