E. Vallavan, Karaikal Collector, addressing students in Karaikal on Monday on the importance of voting.

Students have a greater responsibility in protecting democracy and should participate in nation-building y exercising their franchise, said E. Vallavan, District Collector.

Addressing students on “Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation” at Avvaiyar Government College for Women here on Monday, Mr. Vallavan said the district administration had made arrangements for enrolling fresh voters with qualifying age of 18 as on January 1, 2016, through the college. Students should turn guardians of democracy in future, he said and added that the enrolment of fresh voters would be a hassle-free process.

He said in a large democracy, every vote counted and hence the students should utilise their sense of discrimination to choose a right representative for their cause. He appealed to them to motivate their neighbours and relatives to enrol their names during the summary revision.

N. Ilango, Principal (in-charge); S. Nagarajan, Deputy Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs; and S. Manickadeepan, Deputy Collector for Revenue; explained to the students on how to enroll their names in the voter list. Prof. Sammantham proposed a vote of thanks.
