Lightning killed a girl while a woman was critically injured near here on Sunday. Police said M. Vishnupriya (19) of East Street, Devananchery, her relative S. Vasuki (32) and some other women were engaged in agricultural work in a field in the village when lightning in the midst of sudden showers when two were struck by lightning and thunder. While Vishnupriya died on the spot, Vasuki sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Kumbakonam Government Hospital. The Swamimalai police have registered a case and are investigating.
