Street vendors in Tirupur city have called upon the authorities concerned to immediately constitute the ‘Town Vending Committee’ as per the provisions under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihoodand Regulation of Street Vending) Act and issue identity cards to all the vendors.
The street vendors, along with the support of AITUC men, have commenced a signature campaign among the traders to garner support for the crusade asking the officials to follow the guidelines in the said Act in its letter and spirit to avoid any excesses from the police or eviction without any prior intimation.
Hardships
“Currently, the street vendors face lot of hardships from officials, especially those from the Police Department, who remove them and confiscate their goods all of a sudden,” AITUC district president N. Sekar, told The Hindu .
The signed memorandum highlighting their demands for constitution of Town Vending Committee and also their grievances will be submitted shortly to the District Collector shortly.
