Stop private vehicles operating as tourist cabs: BMS

January 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh has appealed to the district administration to prevent private vehicles from operating as tourist cabs.

Addressing a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday, BMS office-bearers alleged that vehicles without valid tourist permit and licence and with Kerala registration were freely operating in the district.

They demanded the seizure of such vehicles, as they flouted the Motor Vehicles Act. The leaders alleged that over 50 tourist vehicles registered in Kerala were freely operating without obtaining necessary permits from the Tamil Nadu authorities, affecting the livelihood of local tourist cab operators.

Private vehicles were operated without proper travel permit and insurance all over the district, thus denying relief in case of accidents from insurance companies to those travelling in them , they alleged.

Veludoss, district president, presided.
