State Election Commissioner resigns

State Election Commissioner Syed Munir Hoda on Monday tendered his resignation, citing personal reasons. The letter of resignation has been accepted by the Governor.

The 1976 batch IAS officer, who was due to retire in July 2010, was appointed to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission as its top executive by Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala in May 2010 for a period of two years. He was Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation before becoming SEC.

He had also served as chairman of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation during its formative days.

In a career spanning about 38 years, he also served as Health Secretary, and Home Secretary during the previous AIADMK regime; and as secretary to Chief Minister after the DMK came to power in 2006.
