Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Treasurer M.K. Stalin on Tuesday reassured to constitute Lokayukta and also bring in the Public Service Guarantee Act, if the DMK was voted to power in next year’s Assembly elections.

Interacting with college students, as part of his third leg of Namakku Naame campaign, he said that corruption in the State prevailed from the issuance of birth certificates to obtaining Old Age Pension. But once the Public Service Guarantee Act is implemented, officials would reach the doorsteps of the people to provide services. He also said that people’s representatives would meet members of the public once every 15 days to know their problems and sort it out.

“We are planning to include it in our manifesto so that they (people’s representatives) would be replaced if they failed to meet the people,” he added. Mr. Stalin pointed out that industries would be started and mass employment opportunities would be generated if DMK was voted to power.

He wondered how the Global Investors Meet (GIM) held in Chennai recently could attract Rs. 2.42 lakh crore of investments at the end of second day when the Chief Minister had, in her inaugural speech at GIM, had said that investments were expected only up to Rs. 1 lakh crore.

“Without infrastructure and industrialists not being able to meet either the ministers or the Chief Minister, where did the additional investment come from?,” he asked.

Mr. Stalin said that 83 lakh youth have registered in the employment exchanges in the State in the past four-and-half years of which 43 lakh were women. “We will fill the existing vacancies in government departments, create an environment for industries and create job opportunities,” he added. He also said that 50 per cent of the power generation projects were completed during the DMK rule and if the AIADMK government, instead of scrapping it, had completed it, there would be no power shortage problems.

Mr. Stalin earlier received petitions from lorry owners, silver anklet unit owners and differently-abled persons. Traders wanted ban on online trading and the airport to be made operational.

Later in the evening, he met workers from sago units and flour mills owners in Attur. He concluded his two-day campaign in the district by addressing the public in Thalaivasal and later on proceeded to Villupuram district.
