DMK president M.K. Stalin on Thursday called for immediate action by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) against Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani and other Chennai Corporation officials for the alleged corruption in the award of tenders.

In a statement, he alleged that corruption to the tune of ₹740 crore had taken place in the award of tenders and demanded action against the Corporation vigilance officials. Mr. Stalin noted that the DVAC had not taken any action against the complaint filed by Arappor Iyakkam. Despite the Corporation cancelling some tenders, no searches or investigation had taken place, and no action was taken against the Minister, he added. Mr. Stalin warned that if no action was taken, his party would move the High Court.
