Powerless: People waiting at the Collectorate in Dindigul on Saturday.

People who had turned up at the Collectorate here on Saturday for registration or making changes for Aadhaar cards were told that the centre was closed due to staff shortage.

Over 100 people, including women and children, had turned up for availing themselves of the services of the centre, which is used for identity proof and receiving government benefits.

Some of them had been to the Corporation office where the staff manning the Aadhaar service centre had not turned up. At the Collectorate, citing shortage of manpower, the large number of waiting public were told to come on Monday. When people who had come from places like Gandhigram did not move and squatted on the corridors of the Collectorate, they were told that there was no power supply. After waiting for more than two hours, they returned home disappointed.
