Sri Lankan Navy arrests 9 Nagapattinam fishermen

Nine fishermen of Nagapattinam district were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy when they were fishing mid-sea on Wednesday.

The fishermen had set sail from Nagapattinam in a mechanised boat on October 11, Fisheries Department officials said.

Information regarding the arrest was received by the Fisheries Department on Wednesday morning, a senior official said.

This is the fourth time in the recent past that Nagapattinam fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.

A few days ago, 19 fishermen of Nagapattinam district were arrested by the Sir Lankan Navy. Prior to that, 15 fishermen were arrested and nine others were arrested days earlier.
