Special wings to intensify surveillance at tourist spots

Special monitoring wings would be deployed at tourist spots not only to protect visitors but also to prevent crimes and check movement of anti-social elements, said Praveen Kumar Abinapu, Superintendent of Police.

Talking to press persons here on Monday, he said that flow of tourists in the district was good during weekdays and heavy during weekends this summer. Already sufficient police personnel had been deployed at prime tourist spots to provide adequate security. Effective monitoring by the special wing would prevent crimes to a great extent at tourist spots. The special teams would collect information and analyse past crimes. Prime tourist destinations were under scanner. Surveillance would be intensified further.

Another team of police officials had been formed to collect data on road accidents. To control overspeeding, private bus operators had been advised to maintain speed within the town limits. If drivers of heavy vehicles did not follow traffic rules, stern action would be initiated against them.

Awareness campaign on safe journey and traffic rules would be conducted for the benefit of the public. Checking against drunken driving was also being undertaken on highways. Night patrolling had also been intensified on highways.

“We will meet the public on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week to listen to their grievances. Top priority will be given to petitions highlighting public issues and common problems of villages or towns. Action taken on petitions regarding public issues will be made public,” he added.

Mr. Abinapu also presided over a participated in a special grievance redress day in which hundreds of women participated. Majority of the petitioners, mostly women, asked him to settle their family disputes. Aged parents too complained that their wards abandoned them and did not even feed them.
