Retired Inspector General of Police A.G. Ponn Manickavel, in response to the charges levelled by colleagues, countered that someone was instigating them to complain against him.
“They are 21 persons who have not arrested a single accused or registered an FIR. All of them are good boys; somebody is instigating them,” he said. “None of the officers who have complained gave me any representation for transfer in the last one-and-a-half years, either in mail or in person. I would have considered them,” he added.
“I am an officer appointed by the High Court now and confirmed by the Supreme Court...There are 700 personnel allotted by the court as support staff. They are not here to investigate, their task is only to support the Idol Wing, which has less strength. In the last year, we have registered 19 cases and recovered 17 idols. Forty-seven accused were arrested. All these were done by me with the help of a few constables.”
He pointed out that one of the officers was a deserter, because he was absent for too many days.
