January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

Documents of ration shops in all 95 village panchayats will be placed before gram sabha meetings to be held on Monday on account of the Republic Day for social audit, according to a press release issued by Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan here on Saturday.

Social audit of PDS registers would ensure transparency and increase accountability of the staff and the officials.

People could check the entries of purchase of essential commodities made in respective ration shops.

The Collector also directed all the 95 village panchayats in the nine panchayat unions to conduct grama sabha meetings on a rotation basis on Monday.

Development schemes to be implemented in the villages should be placed before the meeting for ratification.

Officials should explain the schemes being implemented through various departments at the meeting, the release added.
