Smart City: discussions completed in all four zones

October 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - ERODE:

The City Corporation has completed conduct of the zonal-level meetings for generating ideas for implementation of Smart City project.

The main points highlighted at the meetings in all the four zones were daily supply of drinking water to all households, and complete coverage of the city in the underground drainage project, Corporation Commissioner R. Mohan said.

Consolidation of the ideas as also suggestions provided by the public would precede formulation of a final proposal.

On their part, public organisations have started offering numerous suggestions for incorporation into the project proposal.

The Erode Tax Payers People’s Welfare Trust has laid emphasis on hassle-free drinking water supply through construction of adequate number of overhead tanks at ward-level; and addressing traffic congestion and constructing subways in Brough Road, Moolapalayam, Teachers’ Colony, Soolai, and Sengodampallam.

When roads are dug on both sides, three chambers must be created, one each for power lines, cables, and water pipelines.

Likewise, there must be one Primary Health Centre for every five wards, and two public toilets per ward, besides mobile toilets in places where public functions take place. There must be proper encouragement for maintenance of green zones, secretary of the Trust N. Bharathy said.

C.N. Raja, Honorary State Secretary of Indian Medical Association - Tamil Nadu State Branch, said there must be a culture of parking vehicles at a distance and walking for shoppers.

The Corporation could think of constructing multi-storeyed parking lots to free the roads of congestion. Likewise, the filth in the main canals must be removed to pave way for flow of clean water, to safeguard hygiene of the residents, Dr. Raja said.
