Six unions to be developed under growth fund scheme

Under Balanced Growth Fund Scheme, six of the14 panchayat unions in the district would be developed and innovative schemes introduced to ensure overall balanced growth and greater efficiency in service delivery, said Collector T.N. Hariharan.

Addressing a review meeting here on Wednesday, he said that Natham, Sanarpatti, Vadamadurai, Reddiyarchatram, Thoppampatti and Nilakottai unions had been identified as most backward unions where the scheme would be implemented.

Sophisticated medical equipment would be bought for primary health centres in those unions. A sum of Rs.1.04 crore had been allotted for the purpose. Health officials had been directed to take steps to buy theequipment.

Top priority will be given for development of small industries in those unions. Coir rope making, fruit and milk processing and manufacture of readymade garments would be encouraged, and training imparted to youth in those trades.

Natham union would have agro processing centres. Check dams, drip irrigation facilities, vegetable and fruit processing units and flower markets would be established and availability of agri inputs ensured in that union.

Industrial development and health care activities would be taken up in Nilakottai union.

Training centres

In Sanarpatti union, a readymade dress manufacturing and training centre, constructed at a cost of Rs.25 lakh, would become operational soon.

A similar training centre, set up at a cost of Rs. 32.43 lakh, was ready in Thoppampatti union.

‘Pudhu Vaazhvu’ officials had been asked to float tenders for purchase of sewing machines for the readymade garments making unit.
