Six students hurt as van goes off road

Six children sustained minor injuries when a van in which they were going to school went off the road and plunged into an agricultural field at Arasankuzhi village near here on Friday.

According to police, the driver, V. Palanikumar, lost control of the van while negotiating a curve near Arasankuzhi, and the vehicle plunged into the field and careened.

Six of the over 20 students in the van sustained minor injuries and were admitted to Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital. The students were studying from standard II to standard V in a private school in Nagercoil.

The injured students were identified as Praveen (11), Ashika (9), Akash (8), Alim Kumar (9), Regina (9) and Mughil. Palanikumar was arrested, and produced before a magistrate court here which remanded him in judicial custody.

Boothapandi police have registered a case.
