Minister for Health C. Vijaya Baskar told The Hindu that dengue cases were significantly declining in the State over the last three years due to multi-dimensional preventive care activities taken up by different stakeholders.

“People should understand that not all viral fevers are dengue. Actually, there is no need to panic at all, as the dengue cases have declined from around 13,000 reported in 2012 to about 6,000 cases in 2013 and to 2,800 cases in 2014.

In 2015 too, the cases have shown a proportional decline vis-a-vis last year, with three more months to go for 2015 to end,” he said after inspecting the preventive care activities and medical facilities set up in the district to prevent communicable diseases, here on Friday.

Approach qualified doctors

He further reminded that people should approach only qualified doctors and medical institutions that followed the World Health Organisation protocol if they contracted vector borne/communicable diseases of any nature.

Quacks

“We have arrested more than 200 quacks in the recent times across the State to prevent people from falling prey to them. People also should learn that death occurred in dengue cases only because of complications due to late medical interventions,” the Minister added. According to him, the Chief Minister has taken direct initiatives to ensure that the government hospitals have advanced diagnostic facilities and hence, people should utilise the same to diagnose and treat the communicable diseases.

Mr. Vijaya Bhaskar along with Minister for Forests M. S. M. Anandan, Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty, Collector G. Govindaraj, District Panchayat chairman M. Shanmugam and officials visited the District Headquarters hospital and medical camps set up by Tirupur Corporation to prevent communicable diseases.
