Students should be open and show empathy to different views to develop their competence and thus succeed in their chosen domain, said Oba Noboru, Vice-President, Renault Nissan Technology Business Centre India, on Friday.
Addressing participants at the ninth Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India Southern Section national student convention at the Kalasalingam University at Krishnankoil near here, Mr. Oba said though most of the students possessed good knowledge they should combine their knowledge with good competence and presentation skills to succeed.
He also explained how students could improve competency by having an open mindset, being transparent and motivated, an avid learner and fiercely competitive. They should possess a deep knowledge of their subject and a wide knowledge of other subjects, he said.
Inaugurating the convention, N. Balasubramanian, chairman SAEISS, said that the main objective of the two-day event was to motivate students to become entrepreneurs.
Future engineers, he said, had to face a ‘manufacturing challenge’ while responding to the ‘Make in India’ call given by the Prime Minister. D. Muruganandam, Student Convention Champion, said that the objective of organising such conclaves was to bring out the best engineering talent among students. The convention, besides being a celebration of success, would also facilitate experience sharing and networking. The events would focus on ‘Make in India’ concept, he added.

The Chancellor, Kalasalingam University, K. Sridharan, in his presidential address, advised the students not to be bogged down by concerns and worries about the future. The Vice-Chancellor, S. Saravana Sankar, welcomed the gathering and M. Uthayakumar, Faculty Advisor, proposed a vote of thanks.
