Seven held for filing false complaint

Seven persons were arrested on a charge of filing a false complaint against an All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionary with the Superintendent of Police here on Wednesday. The arrested were Karnan, Malaiandi, Dhanushkodi, Senthil Kumar, Madhan Kumar, Jeyaraman and Ramakrishnan of Koppampatti.

They had on Monday lodged a complaint against V. Jayaraman, an AIADMK functionary, stating that he had cheated them to the tune of Rs. 80 lakh on the promise of getting them jobs in the TNEB in 2011.

In a counter complaint filed with Vadamadurai police, Jayaraman said that all the seven had submitted a complaint to the SP with an aim of extracting money from him.

They had given the money to one Sivaganesan of Chennai for getting government jobs in 2009. But Sivaganesan could not get them jobs. A complaint was lodged against Sivaganesan with the District Crime Branch police in this connection. The case was under investigation. Meanwhile, they filed a complaint against him to threaten him, Jayaraman added. Acting on his complaint, the DCB police arrested the seven persons. They were produced before a local court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
