Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman has stoked a controversy by hailing the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Speaking at an election meeting on Saturday to canvas for party candidate K. Kandasamy in the Vikravandi Assembly constituency, where a bypoll is due on October 21, he said the former Prime Minister, by deploying the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka, was responsible for the killing of Tamils in the island nation.

Terming the former PM an enemy of the Tamil race, he suggested that the death of Rajiv Gandhi on Tamil soil will be glorified in the history books.
