‘Seek funds from State to complete ongoing projects’

PMK founder Ramadoss tells Salem Corporation

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - SALEM:

Alleging that huge corruption has led to financial crunch in Salem City Municipal Corporation, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder Dr. S. Ramadoss said that special funds should be sought from the State government to complete the ongoing projects.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of party meeting here on Monday, he said that underground drainage works, over bridge works, drinking water schemes and other schemes were halted due to lack of funds. “Special funds should be obtained and existing works should be completed’, he said. The PMK founder also wanted the State government to come forward and initiate a probe into the corruption in the Corporation.

Dr. Ramadoss said that the private steel company in Mecheri had promised to provide jobs to local graduates, free house site pattas and adequate compensation to the farmers for land acquired while establishing the company. But jobs were not provided and instead 2,000 workers from other States were employed. “Their contract should be terminated and local graduates should be given jobs,” he urged.

The leader also said that the government’s decision to privatise fish catching in Stanley Reservoir in Mettur would affect 2,000 licensed fishermen and 15,000 of their family members. “The licensed fishermen should be allowed to catch fish,” he said.
