The State Transport Department, in order to avoid heavy traffic rush, has planned to temporarily divert all long-distance buses to be operated on the Outer Ring Road for three days during Deepavali festival. The measure is to avoid traffic congestion during the festival season from November 3 to 5.

As per the temporary plan, all State Transport Corporation (STC) buses originating from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu will be diverted via Poonamallee High Road and take the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to reach Urappakkam bus terminus, from where commuters could board them instead of the bus stops at Tambaram and Guduvanchery.

This includes long-distance buses from Koyambedu to central districts — Tiruchi, Mayiladithurai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, and Kanyakumari, etc.

To avoid congestion during the festive season, buses would be operated from six bus terminals — Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram railway station bus stop, the newly inaugurated Madhavaram bus terminus, Poonamallee and K.K. Nagar.

Passengers bound for southern districts, including Tiruvannamalai, would have to take the buses from Koyambedu.

Buses would be operated from the Tambaram Sanatorium to Kumbakonam and Thanjavur via Vikravandi and Panruti.

Passengers bound for Kancheepuram, Cheyyar, Vellore, Arani and Hosur should take buses from the Tambaram railway station bus stop.

Commuters proceeding to Puducherry via ECR can board buses at the K.K. Nagar bus terminus.
