Instead of considering migrating abroad, graduands should immerse themselves in developing technology to benefit the country, said Arun Kumar Bhaduri, Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam.

Indigenous research, design and development has to flourish in the country. The denial of technology transfer by other countries for departments like theirs “has been a boon for us to develop competence,” he said.

He was delivering the 161st annual convocation address of the University of Madras on Wednesday, which was presided over by Governor-Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit.

Dr. Bhaduri urged the academia to partner with the industry in taking forward research and development.

He dispelled fear of nuclear energy saying, “I have been working for 35 years and for me, me and my family are most important. Unless I am convinced, I will not be working there.”

University Vice Chancellor P. Duraisamy, in his annual report, said at Wednesday’s event students who had graduated in May and August 2018 examinations received their degrees.
