Correspondent of a private school was killed in a road accident near here on Friday evening. Police said private school correspondent Balasubramanian (45) of Shencottah and his friends Vasudevan and Durai were travelling to Tirunelveli in a car on Friday evening. As they reached Pudur near Maaraanthai, retired sub-inspector of police Muthusamy (60), who was riding a bike with his daughter Geetha, suddenly entered the main road.

To avoid a possible collision with the bike, car driver D. Gajin of Shencottah swerved the vehicle, but in vain. After hitting the bike, the car overturned to kill Balasubramanian on the spot and injure Vasudevan, Durai, Gajin, Muthusamy and Geetha. The injured have been admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
