School aflutter with zeal to set world record

Sigaram Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vaniyambadi, is attempting to set world record by creating the ‘largest national flag made with salt’ on its premises with the help of its students on January 25, in connection with the Republic Day.

According to a release from the school, the attempt is create a worldwide platform for its students to obtain international recognition by exhibiting their talent. The flag would be made on an area measuring 3,456 square metres (72 metres long and 48 metres wide), using 40,000 kg of salt, 300 kg of green powder and 90 kg of blue powder. The world record would be judged by officials from various world record authorities. This world record has been recommended to three world record authorities –Asian Records Academy, Singapore, India Records Academy, Mumbai and Tamilan Book of Records.

The event would be held from 7.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. under the leadership of K.C. Veeramani, Minister for School Education, and R. Nanthagopal, District Collector, and the invigilation of teachers.

Special classes and special training were conducted for the participants who have been practising for the last two months. The world record authorities have given 12 hours for setting the record, but the school management has decided to complete it in seven hours, the release said.
