Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday ordered the Tiruvannamalai district administration and the Water Resources Department to release water for irrigation from the Sathanur dam across the Thenpennai river in Thandrampattu region for 40 days starting January 23.
In a release, the Chief Minister said the water release would benefit 7,543 acres of land.
Three instalments
About 600 million cubic feet of water would be released in three instalments between February and April to irrigate 2,500 acres of agriculture lands in Tirukovilur region.
In all, 10,043 acres of agricultural lands in Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts would be irrigated with the water released from the dam, said sources in the Public Works Department.
