AIADMK party general secretary Sasikala’s vow has been fulfilled, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami declared on Saturday after the winning the vote of confidence in the Assembly.
Mr. Palaniswami, along with his Cabinet colleagues, visited the memorials of Jayalalithaa, MGR and Anna on Marina to pay floral tributes after the trust vote.
‘People are happy’
“With the government getting the majority in the confidence motion, Amma’s rule has blossomed once again in Tamil Nadu. All the MLAs are happy and people are also happy,” he said. People and the media would have seen the DMK’s arrogance in the Assembly on television channels. They tried to disrupt the proceedings but failed. With the new government in place, the vow taken by Chinnamma had been fulfilled, he said.
AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran, who accompanied Mr. Palaniswami, echoed his opinion.
Before going to Bengaluru to serve a four-year jail term after being convicted in the disproportionate assets case, Ms. Sasikala had taken a vow at Jayalalithaa’s memorial.
Mr. Palaniswami said the government’s priority would be tackling the drinking water crisis, the worst in 144 years, caused by the failure of monsoons. The Prime Minister would be approached to get drought relief and Vardah cyclone restoration funds. Effort would be taken to obtain Presidential assent for the Bill passed by the Assembly to exempt the State from NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test).
Both leaders accused the rival faction of colluding with arch rival DMK to topple the AIADMK government.
“The MLAs have proved today that they are Amma’s true cadre,” Mr. Palaniswami said.
