Habibullah Road in T. Nagar was buzzing with excitement on Friday night, with the arrival of V.K. Sasikala from Bengaluru on a five-day emergency parole.
Party cadre and supporters assembled in large numbers and a band was also in place to welcome her.
The house of Vishnupriya, the daughter of Ilavarasi — another accused in the disproportionate assets case — was guarded by supporters. They were seen controlling the crowd and blocking access to outsiders.
About an hour before Sasikala’s arrival, an elderly maid from Poes Garden, Rajamma, was brought to Habibullah Road. From 9 p.m cadre were eagerly waiting for her arrival.
Finally around 10 p.m, the entire street resonated with chants praising her as Sasikala arrived, accompanied by T.TV. Dhinakaran.
MLAs Thanga Tamil Selvan, Vetrivel and Senthil Balaji and others were among those who accompanied her to the house.
Later, addressing the media, Mr. Dhinakaran said that it was due to the present Tamil Nadu government that the parole was delayed. He said that with the help of the judicial system, the “treacherous government” will be toppled and that his faction would come to power.
