P.A. Sangma, the Presidential candidate of the Opposition parties, on Wednesday said that the support of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was a great strength to his campaign.

Mr. Sangma, who was here to meet Ms. Jayalalithaa, told reporters that she not only offered her party’s support to him but also mobilised the support of a number of parties across the country. “It is a great strength.”

Mr. Sangma said that he had come to Chennai to express his gratitude to her.

He was accompanied by his son James Sangma and former Union minister Arvind Netam. Ms. Jayalalithaa, who was in Kodanad in the Nilgiris, came to Chennai to vote in the Presidential election.

After meeting Mr. Sangma, she chaired a meeting of AIADMK MLAs and MPs at the party headquarters and briefed them about the guidelines for the Presidential elections.

15 MPs to vote in Chennai

The Chief Electoral Officer stated in a press release that in addition to the MLAs, 10 members of the Lok Sabha and five members of the Rajya Sabha would cast their votes in Chennai.
