Sand lorry owners demand welfare board

: Tamil Nadu State Sand Lorry Owners’ Federation has urged the government to setup a separate welfare board for protecting the rights of its members.

At a meeting held here on Wednesday, Sella Rajamani assumed office as State president of the Federation, R. Paneerselvam as general secretary, R. Ravikumar as treasurer and S. Ponnusamy as vice president and S. Arul as State deputy secretary. Members said that in order to prevent sand smuggling to Kerala and Karnataka, sand should be provided only to lorries with Tamil Nadu registration number. They also demanded relaxation of minimum norm of Class 8 for obtaining driving licence apart from removing 373 toll gates across the country.
