Salem city and other parts of the district experienced moderate showers for about half an hour on Saturday evening.

Salem city experienced the maximum rainfall of 34.4 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. Saturday. The following are the rainfall recorded in the district during the same period: Sankagiri 34.3 mm, Vazhappadi 31 mm, Aanaimaduvu 26 mm, Edappadi 25 mm, Mettur 24.8 mm, Kadaiyampatti 24 mm and P. N. Palayam 24 mm, Attur 20.6 mm, Yercaud 20 mm, Omalur 16 mm, Kariyakovil 10 mm and Thammampatti 4 .4 mm

In Namakkal district, Tiruchengode town experienced the maximum rainfall of 55 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by Mangalapuram 48 mm, Rasipuram 47 mm, Namakkal 38.2 mm, Paramathivelur 33 mm, Kumarapalayam 16.4 mm, Sendamangalam 15 mm, Puduchathram 13 mm, Mohanur 6 mm, and Erumapatti 3 mm.

Water level in Mettur Dam

The water level in Mettur Dam stood at 33.76 ft on Saturday against its full level of 120 ft. The storage level stood at 9.104 tmc against the dam's full capacity of 93.47 tmc. The inflow into the dam was 2,908 cusecs and the discharge for meeting the drinking water needs of delta districts, 500 cusecs.

Houses damaged

Two houses were damaged after a huge boulder from Kariyaperumal Karadu, a hillock, fell on them on Friday night due to heavy rain and strong winds in the city. However, no one was injured in the incident.

Heavy rain lashed the city from Friday evening.

Strong winds uprooted many trees and damaged houses constructed near the hillock. In the night, due to loose soil and wind, a boulder moved from the Karadu and fell on the two houses.
