Salem city and other parts of the district experienced intermittent showers in the evening. The sky remained overcast throughout the evening session.

The hill station of Yercaud experienced sharp showers throughout Sunday night. Due to this, villages on the hill went powerless from Sunday evening till Monday morning.

Due to the continuous rainfall, late evening bus services to Yercaud from Salem were suspended. The bus service was resumed on Monday morning. Yercaud experienced the maximum rainfall of 70.6 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. on Monday. Thammampatti got 16.8 mm; Attur - 10.4 mm; Sankagiri - 8 mm; Salem - 3.9 mm; Omalur - 3 mm; Mettur - 2.4 mm; and Edappadi - 1 mm rainfall during the period.

The water level in the Mettur Dam stood at 84.77 feet on Monday evening against its full level of 120 feet.

The inflow was 2,837 cusecs and the discharge, 15,811 cusecs for farm activities in Cauvery delta districts and also under the Mettur East-West canal scheme, PWD sources said.
