Salem, Erode Railway Junctions likely to get escalators soon

The Salem Railway Division has proposed to install escalators in Erode and Salem Railway Junctions and foot over bridges (FOBs) in Kodumudi and Sankari Railway Stations.

The above proposals are under the serious consideration of the division, Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, said while addressing the members of the newly-constituted Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) here on Friday.

The DRM said that Salem division is totally committed to the timely operation of trains, cleanliness of railway premises, and passenger amenities. He mentioned that sufficient cash imprest has been provided for Station Managers for keeping the stations clean, in line with Swachch Bharath initiative of the Prime Minister.

Many new advance ticket booking counters are being opened in the stations under Salem Division. New station buildings/ extensions are coming up in Salem, Tirupur and Coimbatore North stations, he said.

Referring to the pleas of the members for introduction of new trains and additional facilities, Mr. Shubhranshu suggested to the members to take up these matters with their respective MPs for drawing the attention of the Railway Ministry.

He mentioned that 13 advance ticket booking counters and eight Post Office advance ticket booking counters are being operated by Salem Division in various places.

Assistance booths

He sought help from the members for installing battery-operated cars in Tirupur, Erode and Karur, and medical assistance booths in Coimbatore and Tirupur, for which the DRUCC members assured to take steps.
