The Salem Corporation removed garbage piled up during puja holidays.

The Salem Corporation launched an intensive drive and cleared 600 tonnes of garbage piled up during the puja holidays, on Saturday.

As a huge stock of garbage piled up in various parts of the city, R.Sadheesh, Corporation Commissioner, launched the special drive. The Corporation conservancy workers removed the wastes such as banana saplings, garlands, broken pieces of pumpkins and coconuts from all the 60 wards.

Special vehicles

Special vehicles pressed for transporting the garbage to the Corporation dumping yard in Chettichavadi. The drive, which commenced in the morning, continued till late evening hours, Corporation sources said.

About 600 tonnes of garbage was removed on a single day by more than 1,000 workers, the sources added.

People urged the Corporation to continue the drive to remove the left-out garbage from the residential localities and other public places.
