A 50-year-old Russian who was stranded atop the Tiruvannamalai hill on Friday was rescued by the police on Sunday morning.

According to the police, Aleksandr, 50, son of Dimov, is from Russia. He holds a passport valid up to May 2024, and his tourist visa is valid up to September 2018. He arrived in Tiruvannamalai on July 26 and was staying in a guest house on Chengam Road.

“It is suspected that he climbed the hill through a route near Yama Lingam temple. However, upon reaching the top, he did not know how to get down. He called the police control room from his mobile phone seeking help,” said a senior police officer.

The call was forwarded to the Tiruvannamalai town police station for action. Thanga Gurunathan, Sub-Inspector and 10 personnel from the armed reserve, climbed the hill on Saturday morning and traced the foreigner on Sunday morning, said R. Ponni, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvannamalai.

Mr. Aleksandr’s condition is normal. Further investigation is on.
