Reiterating his party’s demand, DMK working president and the Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin on Thursday urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to publish a white paper on the implementation of various schemes announced suo motu on the floor of the House [under Rule 110] by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa since 2011.

However, Mr. Palaniswami was not open to the demand of the DMK, as he maintained that a total of 557 of the 879 schemes announced had been implemented completely, while 315 schemes were about to be implemented completely. As for the DMK demand for a white paper, Mr. Palaniswami said, “We have all the details of the schemes. If you ask for specific schemes, we will provide you with details of the scheme and its status.”

He gave a booklet with details of the number of schemes announced (mostly by Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister) since 2011-12 and the schemes that were implemented completely and those which were about to be completed. The debate on the suo motu announcements came about when DMK MLA K. Ponmudi mentioned a scheme announced by the AIADMK government and questioned its status.

However, Stalin objected to the reply given by the Chief Minister and urged the government to provide details of all the schemes announced under suo motu statements and eventually implemented. “The government should tell us which schemes have been implemented and which are not,” he demanded.

Intervening in the debate, Electricity Minister P. Thangamani contended it was only because people were convinced about the implementation of the schemes that they elected the AIADMK to power. Countering this, Mr. Stalin said: “The same people elected 89 DMK members to question the government over the schemes implemented.”
