Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Vijayadasami rally, organised for the first time in Madurai, to commemorate its 93rd Foundation Day passed of peacefully on Sunday.

Around six persons, reportedly belonging to the Dravidar Kazhagam, who gathered along Bypass Road to allegedly show black flag as a mark of protest during the rally were detained by police before the rally began. More than 600 RSS cadre, along with members of the BJP and other affiliated organisations, took part in the rally.

Later, speaking at a public meeting, R. Vanniyarajan, who heads the RSS in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, said their organisation’s presence was deep-rooted in Tamil Nadu, contrary to the claims of its opponents.

Swami Sivayogananda, Acharya of Chinmaya Mission in Madurai, stressed the importance of spreading the principles of Hindu dharma which, he said, were needed more to maintain law and order in the country than its laws.
