Rs. 32 lakh fraud detected

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Bengaluru:

The Lokayukta chief engineer, who conducted an inspection on alleged irregularities in civil works at the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DG&IGP) office on Nrupatunga Road, has reported misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs. 32 lakh.

The Lokayukta chief engineer had inspected the works last weekend following a complaint by social activist T.J. Abraham.

The report has held Executive Engineer Venugopal, Assistant Engineer D.K. Puttaswamy and Assistant Executive Engineer Anand — all attached with the Public Works Department — responsible for the misappropriation. The report states that a single work of building a car park was divided into nine civil works to avoid issuing tenders. All of these works were awarded to one Anil Kumar, brother-in-law of Mr. Puttaswamy. The case will come up for hearing before Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi on Thursday.
