Two others who were with him escaped with minor injuries

Veerappan (48), a fisherman from Moorthikuppam Pudukuppam in the Bahour area, died at sea due to the rough weather early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred at 4 a.m., when Veerappan's boat capsized. Two other fishermen who were with the deceased escaped with only minor injuries. Post-mortem indicated that it was an accidental death, the police said.

Houses destroyed

According to data available with the Revenue Department, four houses in the town area were destroyed and four people admitted to the hospital with injuries. Five other houses were partially damaged. In rural areas, 31 houses sustained partial damage and two people were admitted to the hospital with injuries.

Water released

The Veedur Dam has been opened, with 2176 cubic meters of water released. People living in riverside areas have been asked not to enter the river and police protection has been provided in these areas.

In the past one day, the recorded rainfall was 12 mm, and the weather is expected to clear by Monday, officials said.
