Rockfort temple gets a makeover


Gold kavacham using 6 kg of gold made with donations from devotees

ork on the renovation of the Rockfort Sri Thayumanaswamy temple, popularly known as Sri Uchchi Pillaiyar temple, has been nearing completion.

In all, seven major works had been executed at an expenditure of Rs. 2 crore.

The work, among other things, included renovation of the Chithra Mandapam near the entrance to Sri Thayumanaswamy temple. Fifty paintings of various seizes and shapes had been renovated here.

The vimanam of Sri Uchchi Pillaiyar had been adorned with gold kavacham using 6 kg of gold — done with donations from devotees.

At present, the work on “kodi maram” has been in full swing. An old kodi maram in front of Sri Thayumanaswamy temple is being replaced by a new one made of teak, N. Suresh, Executive Officer of the temple.

He pointed out that arrangements were being made for the smooth conduct of the maha kumbabhishekam scheduled between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. on December 6.

He said the eight-kala yagasalai pooja would begin on December 2.

The ‘panda kaal’ ceremony, marking the holy commencement of ‘maha kumbabhishekam’ was held at the temple on Sunday.

A large number of devotees witnessed the ceremony and offered their worship to Sri Thayumanaswamy, His Consort Sri Mattuvazhar Kuzhal Ammai, Sri Manicka Vinayagar, and Sri Uchchi Pillaiyar.
