Previously, town bus No. 32 was operating to Needamangalam from Kumbakonam. This is not plying much to the hardship of students and office-goers as they have to depend on route buses. They find it difficult to board the long distance route buses. Besides, the fare is higher. The bus service should be restored at least during peak hours.

LIC pension
scheme not paid
We invested in LIC Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana and have received the policy from LIC promptly. This is a pension scheme meant for senior citizen to have a regular income every month. But much to our surprise we have not received the pension even though it is more than 60 days. Our LIC agent informed us that we will be getting the pension very soon but we are not happy with this reply. We found from the bank that the account has not been credited till today. LIC should be aware that retired people and senior citizens depend on regular monthly income. If it is not in time we might face difficulty. We request the authorities to release the pension.

Punish footboard
travellers
I travel by bus between Nachiarkoil and Kumbakonam very and suffer a lot due to foot-board travellers. The foot-board travellers have to be punished since it is a nuisance to the other commuters. The drivers and conductors who allow such nuisance should also be punished.

Why have two
bus stands?
There is a new constructed bus stand at Puliampettai near Kumbakonam. It is intriguing that one more bus stand is coming up just a few yards away from the other bus stand. Why are there two bus stands in one place?

Repair pavement
This refers to last week reader’s mail letter on encroachments on pavement of Maris corner to Ramanathan Hospital. There is no footpath for the commuters. The platforms particularly at the Sacred Heart Convent premises is in bad condition with huge gaps. Schoolchildren have to walk on them to reach their school. Either the school management should take action to maintain the platforms in the interest of their students or the corporation should step in to set right the problem.

Adirampattinam
can be a taluk
Apart from being the largest town panchayat, Adirampattinam is an educational and business hub in Pattukottai taluk of Thanjavur district.
Formation of new taluk with Adirampattnam as its headquarters is a long-pending demand. Some adjoining areas of Sethubavachatram block of Peravurani taluk might be attached to the new taluk. Recently, the State government has announced the creation of 16 new taluks and five revenue divisions. I urge the authorities concerned to include Adirampattinam taluk in the list.

Leaky buses
With monsoon fast approaching, the problems for bus travellers is set to increase. The buses plying in and around Thanjavur are in very bad state. If it rains, it leaks inside the bus. The TNSTC should take action as soon as possible to protect passengers.

Repair damaged road
The road that was re-laid between Thiruvalluvar Nagar and Annai Anjugam Nagar has been completely damaged. It has not lasted even six months. Patch works may at least be undertaken by the contractor who laid the road. The local body should direct the contractor to do the work.

Develop picnic spots
The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation and Tamil Nadu Tourism Department can go for joint development of Mukkombu and Kallanai which are good picnic spots. They have to be provided with more children play area, places for elders to relax and entertainment avenues with private participations. There is a big tank at the entrance of the Kallanai Road and its banks can be planted with more trees.

Let us try
cage fishing
It is disturbing to read regularly Indian fishermen being arrested for straying into international waters. An attempt can be made to introduce deep sea cage fishing. As we have a long coast line, this may be a source of livelihood for our fishermen within our territory

A great loss to mankind
The demise of Swami Dayananda Saraswathi is a great loss to the mankind. His strenuous efforts in protecting Hindu dharma and preserving the ancient traditions of India helped make the world realise the quintessence of Hinduism, religious diversity in the most acceptable way.
