Public ransacked Tasmac liquor shop and smashed liquor bottles on the road near Katpadi on Sunday.

Tasmac opened the shop only recently in the Aruppumedu near Katpadi.

However, people of the neighbourhood were opposed to this. They argued that the shop was close to Tamil Nadu Housing Board apartments, a school and an anganvadi centre.

Hundreds of people assembled in front of the shop on Sunday. Sensing the mood of the public, the salesman of the shop locked the doors and left the place.

However, irate crowd broke open the door and ransacked the shop.

They threw the crates of liquor bottles out of the shop and smashed them on the road. Police rushed to the spot and restored order.
