Reserved wards notified

In yet another step to facilitate the conduct of the local body elections in the State, the Tamil Nadu government has notified the wards in rural and urban local bodies reserved for women candidates and those from the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

As for the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), 89 of a total of 200 wards are reserved for women (general), 16 for SC (women) and another 16 for SC.

A notification to this effect was issued by GCC Commissioner G. Prakash recently. No ward was reserved for STs in GCC.

In another notification, the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department notified the wards in 122 Municipalities reserved for these categories.

Director of Town Panchayats S. Palanisamy notified town panchayats reserved for women (general), SC (women), SC, ST (women) and ST.
