Remains of woman found in forest area

Skeletal remains of a woman were found in the forest area in Vazhapadi here on Sunday.

The police said that villagers in Mariamman Pudur, who were grazing cattle in Godumalai, a hillock here, found the remains near bushes and informed the police.

Vazhapadi DSP Shanmuga Sundaram, forest officials and fingerprint experts went to the spot. They found a sari and footwear too.

The remains were suspected to be that of a woman and could be in the area for the past four months.

The police recovered the remains and decided to send them for laboratory analysis after getting court permission.

The villagers said that a temple was there atop the hillock and they visited it every month.

They also said that porcupine and bear were found in the area.
