Recruitment Board in a quandary

The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) is in a quandary over the ruling.

The board had notified filling up of 6,140 vacancies in the rank of Police Constable (Grade-11), Jail Warders in the Prison Department and Firemen in the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services last December.

Of the 3.28 lakh applications received, there were hundreds of candidates who applied under the said quota. These candidates appeared for the written examination and are waiting call for the next level of recruitment. With the quota struck down, DGP (TNUSRB) Jalad K Tripathy, ADGP Sunil Kumar and others had an urgent meeting with Home Secretary Niranjan Mardi on Monday and apprised him of the situation.

Senior officers were of the view that the court order would be seen as a major setback on the welfare front since many police personnel pinned hopes on the quota for getting their wards into the police department.
