Need for pedestrian access

In some of the busy areas of Puducherry, such as the Nellithope signal, the road in front of Balaji theatre and Adlabs theatre, pedestrians find it difficult to cross during peak traffic hours. For example, I get down at the Nellithope signal from the bus, and find it difficult to go to Savari Padayatchi Street. Motorists drive rash at this Free Left, and I have seen school children crossing this road to catch a bus. I request the authorities to have road dividers and speed breakers. A subway or pedestrian bridge could also be considered.

Better use of space

The space under the proposed railway road over bridge at 100 Feet Road in Puducherry should be properly utilised for a better glimpse of Puducherry to tourists who are visiting by train.

There should be better coordination between the Tourism Department and the Railway and National Highway authorities to beautify the space. Suggestions can be collected by the Tourism Department from various stakeholders.

Law and order should prevail

Puducherry has become a place content with one-day rules. The administration imposes rules one day, and the next day it is forgotten. From auto fares which are unregulated to rampant traffic violations like overspeeding, using air horns, overloading and using mobile phones while driving, it can all be found here. Then there is news of artificially-ripened food, unhygienic eateries and encroachment of all pedestrian space. Tourists are said to looted, and residents living in fear. Crimes seem to continue unabated. Law enforcers should have a free hand, or soon the worst is in store.
